Each fall, after weaning, we sell 15-20 of open heifers, private treaty. We also sell a few bulls, private treaty as well. We generally have a selection of mature cows for sale at all times. Additionally, we send a handful of bulls to the New Mexico State University Feed Efficiency Bull test at Tucumcari, NM. The sale is held in March of each year, and a catalog of all the bulls being offered, as well as their videos can be found at: http://www.aces.nmsu.edu/ces/beef
As grass becomes more valuable, and profit margins continue to shrink, the efficiency of cattle is becoming ever more important. That's why we've been part of the Bull test for the past 7 years, and plan to continue in the future, in an effort to identify those bloodlines that can survive and thrive on less input. In our time at the test, we have had the high indexing bull once, in 2016, and the most Efficient bull one time as well, in 2017. There are generally just over 100 bulls on test each year, so to be victorious, is no small accomplishment, and we were humbled and honored to win.
